My Thoughts about Grades
I believe that grades are ultimately harmful to learning. Grading can be harmful to a student's self-image and inflict a fixed mindset. Grades distract students from using feedback to improve. Grades tell students that learning is not inherently valuable.
Nevertheless, I have to give grades. I encourage you to try your best to understand the material in the course and grow as much as possible. I will help you when you stumble. Try not to worry about grades. Try to learn as much as you can and see where it takes you. You might find that this attitude will help you achieve better grades in the end anyway.

Growth Mindset Appointments
If you spend a lot of time fixing the mistakes on your test (looking at answer keys, redoing problems, etc) and you feel like you learned the math, then you can make an appointment with me outside of class to explain your mistakes and get points back (up to 80%). If you really learned, then this should take no more than a 5 minute conversation with me. I don't care about points. I care that you learn. So if you show me that you learned, then I have no problem giving you more points. That being said, if I have to help you through the problems, then you aren't showing me that you fixed your mistakes. So make sure you really know your stuff before you request growth mindset appointment.
Rubrics
Most problems are graded on the 4-point Rubric. Every week, homework and classwork will be peer graded with the Workbook Check Peer Rubric.
